WHETHER you pronounce it “Lego” or “Lay-go”, thousands of block enthusiasts are set to flock to Adelaide’s biggest ever LEGO exhibition at the Adelaide Convention Centre next month.
Tickets are now on sale for Brick-a-laide, which will showcase more than 50 exhibitors and 60 impressive displays — including Tim Burdon’s Adelaide inspired street scene.
“The building in the photo is actually about a third of the entire street scene,” Mr Burdon, 38, said.
“The whole scene is … somewhere between 60,000 and 80,000 (bricks).”
Mr Burdon, who rediscovered his passion for LEGO in early 2000, said the two-day event will feature traders, the work of local and interstate builders as well as a special appearance from internationally-renowned LEGO artist Mariann Asanuma from California.
“We’ve got a Golden Gate Bridge that’s about 14m long and we’ve got a Sydney Harbour Bridge that’s about 5m long,” he said.
“We’ve got vintage LEGO on display, so stuff that dates back to the 1930s through to stuff that has only been released in the last few weeks.
“There’ll be interactivity as well; we’ll have video games set up and we’ve also got other little hands-on things where kids can come along and actually play with LEGO and build their own creations.”
Adelaide Convention Centre chief executive Alec Gilbert said Brick-a-laide will be visually spectacular.
“By hosting the event on Easter Friday and Saturday we’re expecting big crowds and the Centre is able to manage these numbers comfortably so everyone who wants to attend can enjoy the event,” he said.
The event will be run in hourlong sessions, with the first session held at 8.30am and the last at 4.30pm each day.
