RESIDENTS are calling for another access road from New Port to give people an additional exit when trains are crossing the only route out.
Residents want Wirra Drive extended to Semaphore Rd amid fears that having just one exit, on Rennie Rd, creates a safety issue.
Passenger trains prevent traffic crossing Rennie Rd every 30 minutes during peak times.

New Port resident Sara Gobell said the intersection was a “nightmare and a mess”.
“There is a safety issue there that is not being looked at with regard to traffic being able to get in and out,” Ms Gobell said.
“It is frustrating as well because there is only one entry and exit point and the traffic from the Portside Christian College compounds the problem.”
New Port resident Jennifer Bennetts has written to Labor State MP for Lee, Stephen Mullighan, about the issue.
Ms Bennetts said the traffic snarls around the crossing came to a head last year when a commuter suffered a heart attack on a train at the Ethelton Railway Station.
“Because the boom gates were down, all the traffic got banked up and they couldn’t get out or in until the ambulance came,” Ms Bennetts said.
“I’ve said all along, what if there was an explosion or something happened and we only have one access point so we need another access point.”
Semaphore Ward councillor Claire Boan also backed calls for the road to be extended.
“The people living within New Port, they need to be able to get in and out at more than one point otherwise they feel trapped,” Cr Boan said.
“They need to have a sense of freedom in the place where they are living.”
If Wirra Drive were to be extended, the cost would need to be covered by either the council or future developers.
Mr Mullighan said he would talk with Port Adelaide Enfield Council about extending the road, which he said would also ease traffic congestion along Causeway Rd.
Port Adelaide Enfield Council chief executive Wally Iasiello said he was happy to talk with the State Government about extending Wirra Drive.
